Childhood Signs of My Sexuality

I was too innocent to be aware of any of these signs as a child, and it’s so pure to reflect on my lifelong journey as a person in the LGBTQ+ community. This goes without saying, but none of this should be seen as inappropriate for children to see or do. Harmless things had an impact on me, and it only made discovering who I am easier for me to piece together as I grew up. Continue reading “Childhood Signs of My Sexuality”

Starting an Organization

The students at Lamar University are so diverse, and I think every community deserves to be represented equally. LGBTQ+ organizations have come and gone, so I decided to do what I could to bring it back. I tried my freshman year, but I didn’t have the resources I needed to bring it back. So, how did I start an organization at the college I go to? Continue reading “Starting an Organization”

HRC Houston Gala

I was nominated to attend The 22nd Annual HRC Houston Gala! I was representing my college, Lamar University. It was a complete surprise to me, but I was honored. If you are not aware of what the Human Rights Campaign is, you might still recognize their blue logo that has a yellow equal sign. HRC is an organization for supporting LGBTQ+ lives and equality for all. Continue reading “HRC Houston Gala”

I Was on a Panel

I was asked to be on an LGBTQ+ panel at the university I go to! How did this come about? My college is extremely diverse, but some organizations have sadly faded out. Because of this, I kept in touch with a professor in order to plan events related to the LGBTQ+ community. I wanted to do whatever I could, because students need and deserve to find other students within their cultural identities or interests.

They/Them Pronouns

They, them, and theirs. Just like ‘she’ and ‘he,’ we use these words to describe a person and their actions. How do we use these pronouns and show support as transgender allies? Although I am someone whose pronouns are they/them, I cannot speak for everyone. Not every trans person uses they/them pronouns, and some use a mixture of pronouns, such as she/they or they/he. Everyone is different, but this is my experience. I do not want to sound like I’m generalizing or being harsh, because I am only meaning to educate those willing to learn from me.

My Identity Q&A

I asked people to message me questions about my identity as an LGBTQ+ Disabled person. Sometimes, I worry that I talk about my identity too much. I guess that’s me letting the negative ideas impact my judgement. My goal is to educate and help others like me, not to “shove my identity down people’s throats.” I didn’t expect my answers to be so long, so grab a cup of your favorite beverage and enjoy the show.

Are Labels a Bad Thing?

What are labels? This is your ethnicity, sexuality, gender, difference, etc. If labels make up who you are, what is the real answer to whether labels are a good or a bad concept? There’s a lot more to the concept of identity labels than just slapping a sticker on your bumper and calling it a day. Before we get started, I want to dedicate this to my cousin, Coy, who recently killed himself. He was bisexual, and we had talked about collaborating on this subject. I love and miss you, my Queerketeer. Continue reading “Are Labels a Bad Thing?”
